Description
Relocation at the End of the Trail of Tears copyright Ayasha Loya
This particular painting was inspired by the Trail of Tears. When I painted this I wanted to evoke feelings and educate people about the event. The Trail of Tears is the route along which the United States government forced several tribes of Native Americans, including the Cherokees, Seminoles, Chickasaws, Choctaws, and Creeks, to migrate to reservations west of the Mississippi River in the 1820s, 1830s, and 1840s. As the Native American man descends from the mountain on his horse the Kokopelli is sending messages that the Native is reaching the end of the trail and peace awaits him.
