Love this duvet cover in the Tree Fort Suite of the Elk View Lodge, Fernie, BC, Canada.
This piece is titled "Ga-Be-Nah-Gewn-Wonce. I wanted to commemorate the life of Ga-Be-Nah-Gwey-Wence - translated into English as "Sloughing Flesh", "Wrinkle Meat", or Old "Wrinkled Meat" also known as "John Smith" who purportedly died at the age of 140 years. He was a Chippewa Indian who lived in the Cass Lake (Minnesota). I am drawing Ga-Be-Nah-Gwey-Wence just below an eagle in charcoal black and white. The eagle represents love (Zaagidwin) and is the first of my seven grandfather teachings series. The eagle that represents love because he has the strength to carry all the teachings, just as Ga-Be-Nah-Gwey-Wence had the strength to carry all his teachings through 140 years of his life.
